I have found the softest yarn by Lion Brand. It's called "Velvet Spun", and it is glorious! It is marketed as a baby yarn, but I have used it to design a very lovely, super-soft scarf. It looks like rows and rows of pussywillows, so that's what I decided to call it.
Here's the pattern:
Pussywillow Scarf
(Very Easy Pattern - Perfect for Beginners!)
Materials:
- 2 skeins of Lion Brand Velvet Spun yarn
- Size 13 knitting needles
Knit every row (garter stitch)
Bind off when it's long enough for you (Don't bind off too tight!)
Designed by Sandy Davis
(Note: I made mine with 12 stitches instead of 10, since I'm a plus-size girl!)

this scarf pattern is sooo awesome! I cannot stress how cool it is! you rock!
Thank you! I love it too. SO soft!
I've made two scarves using this yarn in white. I love it too but at our house we call it "caterpillar" cause it's fuzzy like the ones my boys find in the yard during the summer.
I also just made a blanket using your design with the velvet spun yarn for my first daughter. Can't wait to wrap her up in it. Thanks.
